Tiefz Tut
I like to skateboard, make music and draw. I create weird art. It’s a mix of a bunch of things, weird four-eyed creatures, Japanese inspired designs. I like to draw weird characters and incorporate them into my skateboard design. Hopefully I’ll have my own brand in the future and be an established painter.
I got inspired for this board by a few of my drawings of many-eyed creatures and then saw a thing on TV about Egypt. I thought it would be cool to do a Egyptian-style toon. The board is maple and I wood burned the image on. I didn’t really see anyone doing wood burning at OSF this year, so I thought it would be really nice to try it on my board. I focused on the use of line, using different shapes and repetitions of shapes and the movement of the lines themselves. I was trying to show it is cool to use different things, and change everyday images into something new.
I learned wood burning and it is a really unique skill! I feel really accomplished with this board because I learned a new skill and challenged myself to use an image that isn’t normally seen in skateboard art...and it turned out really well!!!
Black Inc.
I enjoy long walks on the beach, moonlit dinners, and long conversation. I also make longboards.
My custom board is an extension of the brand I’ve created at OSF. My brand is called Black Inc. The overall theme of my brand is line drawings done in black ink. I also take a bit of inspiration from modern tattoo style art. Before getting a tattoo, you always receive a preliminary concept sketch. Usually this sketch is black and white, with small amounts of shading. That’s really what I’m trying to achieve.
The theme of my graphic on this board is beauty and freedom. That may not be the message directly conveyed, but that’s how I feel when I look at this board. It was important for me to produce a graphic that I was completely in love with. I want to send this board out into the world feeling confident in the fact that whoever takes it with them will love it forever and I really hope I achieved that.
Like I said, I’m really inspired by tattoo art. Not so much the old school tattoo art. Anchors, and hearts with words “mom” scrawled across them, don’t really do it for me. Lately I’m really into Asian inspired tattoo art. There’s a shop called Chronic Ink that I really, really love. I can honestly say I like every single thing they do, and I follow them religiously. I just adore everything they’re doing.
For this board I used Canadian hard rock maple, lots of glue, a roarockit vacuum press, a skill saw, and various sanding utensils. I have two different coloured veneers; a brown and a teal. I feel the colours look wonderful together. So warm and earthy. I’m very happy with how it turned out.
Luvsumone – I LUV NY
What up world, you already know who it is;) TRNE TRKS, been a student at OSF for a year and a half now. You might recognize me as the Spanish artist with the never ending bad hair days, yeah.. that’s me. I was born into this lifestyle of graffiti and hip hop and a lot of my art reflects that. Currently I stopped skating as much to focus more on my art. I'm really trying switch the game up and paint on random objects beyond the limits of a squared canvas. I find that one of the hardest things in life is trying to balance everything, especially when you love too much, lol. My dream for the future would look a little something like this… a super awesome drop-in art/dance studio where youth would get the opportunity to just paint and get away from struggles or have someone to talk to and learn about Jesus Christ.
Bottom Image/Top Board: This board was pressed using Roarokit technology and was a commissioned cruiser for a cop I met last summer. She really wanted a New York theme with a graffiti twist. The funny thing about this board is that I painted this exact image mural size so it was fun to do it again on a smaller scale. The colours were totally down my lane, warm, vibrant and just straight up delicious! I was really inspired by fruits check it out, mango on top and kiwi on bottom, yumm. I began with taping up the first side of the board so half of it was exposed and then I went at it with spray cans and my magic touch, fading and layering and speckling at just the right pressure. I let that dry and then did it to the bottom side. There is definitely balance and focus on the board and sense of line and shape. I was aiming to communicate the liveliness and warmth of a city like New York. That’s why I used a lot of bright colours. The skyline and bridge were simple stencils, sprayed with darker colours to put a focal point on the center of the board and to make a clear division of sky and water. The way I see a spray can is like an explosion focused on one spot and once you can master that you can create anything. When you look really closely at the sky it’s just tons of dots placed just at the right spot. I really enjoyed making nature out of my own mind and of course adding my graffiti flavour.

Oasis Skateboard Factory pops up at the Baitshop (blogTO article & photos)
Tucked down a dumpster-blocked laneway off of Dufferin, Friday's launch of the Oasis Skateboard Factory Pop-Up was a-buzz with participating student entrepreneurs, supportive friends and family,Toronto Design Offsite attendees, and maybe one or two lured in with the promise of free Glory Hole Doughnuts.
Like a more advanced and practical co-op, the Oasis Skateboard Factory — in partnership with the Baitshop, a screen-printing and skate shop mecca — helps street-savvy students hone their design chops and develop real world business skills, while earning high school credit at the same time. With help from local artists and community partners, the young designers create their own company brands and hawk their creative products for sale, including streetwear designs, skateboards and longboards, and upcycled items made from old boards, like jewellery, speaker casings, and kitchen utensils.

Sustain
I skate. This is my first semester at OSF.
I like woodworking and skateboarding, and the whole skateboarding community and
culture.
My
inspiration for the Sustain board (top) was the amount of wasted skateboards that are thrown
away every year. It’s a lot of wood used, and once a board snaps it's not used
any more. The theme is upcycling, turning a useless product into
something that can be used. My version of the recycling logo represents
my brand. It represents something bigger that I am planning to do:
turn broken boards into household objects, such as benches, coasters, cutting
boards, etc.
The
board is 7-ply Canadian maple. I used five colours of spray paint,
stencils and gloss. The technique I used to create this board was to use
a fade and then repeat the stencil in a reverse fade toward the name of my
brand name Sustain. The design uses colour, repletion and pattern.
The board turned out how I wanted it to. The black section of the board
represents wastefulness, and the nice wood grain represents upcycling and
reusing. It really represents who I am and what my brand represents.
A double-sided longboard from Passion Panda
I love tattooing and skateboarding. My brand name is Passion
Panda. It’s a brand that is about being unique and creating your own
style...being passionate in your own distinct style. The panda
reflects both sides of the skating world: there is a rougher more
aggressive side, and then a softer side to skating, just like a panda.
Pandas are a perfect way to reflect those two things, to balance them together.
This
board’s theme is a new school tattoo. Tatooing is my favourite style of
art, it captivates and inspires me as an artist to aim for a cleaner
style. Tatoos are permeante on skin so you can’t mess up, and they
inspire me to not mess up because you never know who is going to see it.
I have a way of using colour to represent emotions. I used specific
colours on this board to represent specific emotions and feelings to represent
myself, to give the person looking at it a better idea of what I was thinking
when I made the board. I used 7-ply Canadian maple. I applied a
stain first, then stencilled the design on top. Spray paint was used as a
base, and then paint markers were used to give it more of a fade look.
This board is a symbol of inspiration to inspire people to do what they want to
do.
