OSF x Roarockit Product Testing Class Results

OSF x Roarockit Product Testing Results
In collaboration with Roarockit, Oasis Skateboard Factory students constructed three boards for testing. Each board was made from a single kind of wood species, Birch, Maple and Bamboo. All boards had the same shape in order to make testing consistent. Thanks to a donation from CJ Skatepark, students were able to spend the day skating all three boards to find out potential strengths and flaws. After a long and fun day of product testing we were able to create a list of results ranging from the scientific (deflection, torsion, stress) to the fun (pop & feel).

Birch

Deflection
Board felt stiff & stable
Good bounce back
Felt comfortable on the half-pipe

Torsion
Very Stiff
Board shape greatly effects board stiffness

Wear
Snapped quickly

Pop
Average pop compared to regular boards
Felt a bit “off”
Great potential for more pop with a different shape

Feel
Stiff
Weird but O.K.
Difficult to get used to
light

Trucks
If board is to light, won’t flip properly

Maple

Deflection
Pretty durable and strong
Dent resistant

Torsion
Just the right amount of flex

Wear
Graphics stayed intact

Pop
Really nice pop,
felt decently light

Feel
different shape may feel more comfortable

Trucks
Held together tightly

Bamboo

Deflection
Hardly any (dent) damage
Superior material
High wear resistance
Good spring

Torsion
Maple veneers in board took away from flex,
Improves or takes away (from performance) based on riders perspective

Wear
Withstands pressure of use

Pop
Amazing amounts of pop
Didn’t need to get used to it.

Feel
Needs different shape and size
Very solid

Trucks
Difficult to flip because of shape
