GOBZ
This is my first semester at OSF. I love OSF because it doesn't feel like regular school. My brand is Gobz. Gobz exists to unleash people's dark side/inner mischievous being. I always been fascinated by goblins, ever since I was little. I like goblins because they are mischievous and I can relate to that. I'm inspired by the Green Goblin from Spider Man and fantasy themed artwork like Dungeons and Dragons.
To make this board I pressed Canadian maple veneers in a vacuum bag. Then I belt sanded it smooth on the edges, bevelled the edges and sanded the surface. The graphic was made by an 8 layer tape stencil. I chose green and black because those are my signature colours. My shoes, my board, my room- everything is black and green. I used purple as a background colour because it makes the goblin face pop. The speckles add texture and tone to make it a more interesting background.
Making this board was fun. Next time I will be more patient and take more time in-between layers. I will also plan out my stencils a little more. I think my board turned out good and I'm proud of it.

FLIPPIN FERRETS
I am new to the Oasis Skateboard Factory alternative high school. This school has been my saviour for getting my high school diploma. It is the perfect high school that I always wish existed, till I found out it did.
For this semester my brand is Flippin Ferrets and the purpose of my brand is to inspire and enable your adventure. I try to achieve making everybody's day to day life a little more adventurous through making mini-sized, manoeuvrable, free-riding skateboards with old school thrash-styled graphics. I have three pet ferrets and they are very adventurous and I am also into metal and old school graphics, therefore I was influenced to make a zombie ferret board for my brand.
To make this board I used traditional OSF & Roarockit techniques. I glued the pre-cut veneers and then pressed them in our Roarocket air sealed bags. Then I sanded the edges and got to work on my graphic. I wanted a ferret with its guts showing and falling out from inside so I googled a picture of a ferret's internal anatomy and used it for a reference. I decided to use dull tones for the ferret itself and vibrant, bright colours for the guts to really make them noticeable; I like the neon green and purple combination that I've seen in old comics and pictures so decided to use those for my board. I traced and stencilled out all the colours for the design and spray painted them one by one.
I am happy with the result and I've learned that using acetate stencils can be quite difficult and stressful, but I'm glad it turned out the way it did.

FILTH
Yo, I’ve been going to OSF for less than a year and this is my first personal board. My board is based on my brand FILTH that represents my lifestyle and beliefs. I live life fast and dirty; my brand exists to add my filthy layer tosociety. This is my first mini board. I chose to start small and work my way to bigger boards. It was also a perfect shape for my design, which is a zombie reflection of my face at real scale.
This mini is hand pressed using Roarockit technology with 7 layers of veneers of Canadian Maple. I learned how to stain a board with aniline dye because I wanted to show some wood grain and make the background contrast from the spray-painted graphic. I was experienced with stencils before coming to the program, but on this board I pushed my limits. I created a 5 layer self-portrait stencil of my face; I started with a digital photo and then I edited it by tearing away skin, adding stitches and making a grimy looking face. I chose colours to be uneasy to the eye.
My first branded FILTH board was a success and built new skills. When it was done I couldn’t believe I did it and it is a real accomplishment…I’ve never been more involved in a school project! The skills I’ve started to learn at OSF will help me pursue my dream of being a respected artist and skater.

Student Brand: MTS
I am a first semester student at OSF. My brand is MTS or Menace to Society. For my first board, I spraypainted the letters MTS with red spraypaintwith a black background and gold speckles. I painted the board red and taped the letters off, creating a reverse stencil.
The board represents me because I haven’t followed society’s rules. For example, I haven’t been in school for years. I picked the red and black colour scheme to reflect this bold, in your face feeling. I wanted the colours on the board to really pop. I used the brighter colour for the letters so they stand out.
This is my first skateboard and I think making it was sick. It’s cool to know how something I’ve always used is made. On my next board I will pay more attention to the wood grain to prevent chipping. Making a board was a cool and unique assignment that you wouldn’t normally be able to get to do at a school to get credits.
